Your Nation's Capital

Gosh, how do people live here? I am beginning to hate DC; mainly the traffic. I've been here three years and this traffic is killing me. I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands by driving sometimes. Last weekend I was in an accident. A guy was trying to get in my lane while I was in it :) Luckily there was no one was hurt and there was not a lot of major damage to my car. But I have to admit I am a little shook now. I feel like an old lady driving now. I got both hands on the wheel and am always trying to anticipate the next guy. I am so stressed out driving it's not even funny.

I kind of feel like the traffic runs my life. Who knew that 15 minutes could equal an hour. Leaving work 15 minutes early makes all the difference in leaving Georgetown and trying to pick up Addie on time. Leaving early sometimes isn't always possible becausehell doesn't break loose until 4:40pm. Go figure!

I guess I'm just missing the Big D right now. I definitely miss speeding on the Logde. Who knew I would miss Detroit drivers.

Day 3

For the past 2 days, I've re-dedicated myself to Atkins as a jump start to weight loss and a healthier me. I feel like if I can get on the right track for two weeks (the first phase of Atkins called Induction) then I can begin to re-focus my thoughts on healthier eating. So as I go through these two weeks I will research what what loss plan I can best live with and move forward. Wish me luck!

Grouper

I have been accused of being as cheap as Julius on Everybody Hates Chris by vsnapper. And here is my latest foray into cheapness. I found this website by reading the blog of Jessica Turner. She's a scrapbooker and mom and she's doing the Project Life series by Becky Higgins which I am attempting to do this year as well. Check back for my daily pics. But anyway, back to my new thing, Grouper, check it out here. It is basically a deal of the day type deal and it's available in most major cities. Let me know if you sign up!

Hair Update

It's been a little over 2 years since I've gotten my Sisterlocks. I must admit its been a love hate relationship. I love the low maintenance and the fact that I do not have to worry about how my hair is going to look in the morning. I hate that I still have to style it (rollers) and I hate the balls on the end of my hair and I hate that I haven't taken the time to learn how to retighten my own hair...but that's another story. Here are pics taken after my last retightening on Tuesday, March 9 almost 2 years exactly to the date that I got my locs installed.

The first pic is a back view. They're touching my neck!

Side view pic - I love the length.

It Wasn't Supposed To Be This Way

I didn't intend for my first blog post to be almost 4 months to the day after I got my Sisterlocks. I was Sisterlocked on Super Bowl Sunday - February 3, 2008, but because in my mind I'm a perfectionist and because the perfect time to start my blog never happened here I am.

During this last year I've been excited and just recently a little dismayed with my Sisterlocks. This journey began in July 0f 2007. It was then that I actively began researching natural hairstyles. I came across Sisterlocks and actually went to Locks4Life and spoke with Paulette. I watched the Sisterlocks video and was given two test locks. I also spoke with several of Paulette's client's who were so positive about what Sisterlocks meant to them. But at the time I wasn't ready, so two months later I decided to cut off all my relaxed hair and do the big chop in September 6, 2007.

I actually like my hair this short. I liked the ease of just covering it at night and uncovering it in the morning but I was also excited to begin my Sisterlock journey.

Just to put everything in perspective here is a pic of me the day before my installation. I had about 3-4 inches of hair. It took Paulette (Karen also did a couple of locs) about 9 hours with a couple of breaks to install my Sisterlocks.

I am still getting my more recent pics together so come back for more pics.
